Skylon History

I purchased my first purebred dog in 1963, a Collie. I had one litter of Collies in 1965 and in the same year I bred my first litter of Golden Retrievers. I began breeding Golden Retrievers under the Chrys-haefen prefix (now owned and used by my twin sister, Jennifer McAuley and after four litters and 3 years, purchased "Skylon" from John McNicol.

John McNicol was one of my mentors. It was from him that I first really appreciated "English" Golden Retrievers and I purchased my first English imports. From that day forth, I have imported and attempted to produce Golden Retrievers that conform to the standard set forth by the Kennel Club and the Canadian Kennel Club.

Joan Gill and Daphne Philpot of the Westley prefix, are two people that I also consider my mentors, whom I could not fail to mention. They directed me in the path of ideal Golden Retriever specimens.

I have had a great deal of success, and after thirty-eight years of showing dogs professionally, many different breeds, including a number of top Golden Retrievers in Canada, I look forward in promoting my own Goldens and have started my judging career.

Hunt test titles have also taken my interest and now you will find me out in the field with my camouflage and my gun!  So far I have accomplished a Junior Hunter and Working Certificate; but we are working on WCI, WCX & hopefully Senior Hunter.  I am also training a youngster that is ready to go.  I only mention this because it brings to the forefront what our dogs were originally meant to do and how important that our breeds not only display typical behaviour but must be sound of mind and body.

Skylon promotes soundness of mind and body without ever losing the true Golden Retriever temperament.

I have just included a new home page on Testimonials.
